The little people in Wizard of Oz were called Munchkins. According to lead Munchkin Jerry Marin, the "little people" on the set were paid $50 per week for a 6-day work week, while Toto, Judy Garland’s dog received $125 per week. The Munchkins are portrayed by a troupe called the Singer Midgets. They came from Europe, and a number of the Munchkins took advantage of the trip to immigrate and escape the Nazis. Professional singers dubbed most of their voices as many of the Midgets couldn’t speak English.
