John Wayne Exhibition

I recently added a new Exhibition to the site on Original Australian John Wayne Movie Posters. This is a work in progress and will be added to as time goes by so if you have any images that you think should be loaded let me know and I will be happy to include them with a credit. A number of the images came from Craig Kennett who has a very impressive collection but it is interesting that posters for many of the Dukes films of the 30s have never been seen. Many of the images of John Wayne are less than flattering but the Exhibition serves as a historical record of what has been found for collectors.

I also have Exhibitions on…..

I will look at loading more Exhibitions in the near future and if you have any suggestions for genres or movie stars please let me know.

New eBay Feedback Policy

eBay will be rolling in a new policy on feedback soon……

"Detailed Seller Ratings add a new dimension to eBay’s reputation system, allowing buyers to rate transactions based on

  • item description
  • communication
  • delivery time
  • postage & packaging charges.
In addition to the current positive, negative or neutral comment, buyers rate the sellers on these specific transaction aspects based on a 1 to 5 scale, with 1 being the lowest and 5 being the highest rating."

The jury is out on this one. Leaving feedback will be more time consuming and it seems as if the new system will only target sellers.

$4.99 ebay Auctions

For the last few months I have been trying to load between 50 and 100 auctions each week with opening bids of $4.99 in addition to the listings in my eBay store and on this website. There have been some real bargains in recent weeks with many dealers buying up stock for resale. I will continue to run these auctions as long as I can, but eBay has once again raised their listing fees and this does not encourage dealers to run auctions.

Moviemem Myspace

I recently entered the world of myspace and found an amazing array of knowledge and information. I have set up two accounts – Moviemem myspace which has links to some of the great stars with profiles, film clips and music and another account with Profiles of musicians on my playlist at 94.1fm again with some fanatastic links to musicians and their music.

Guides to Australian posters

I have compliled a number of guides to Australian posters on my website as a reference point for collectors including information on Long daybills, Wartime posters, James Bond and more. I will probably add to these in the future and if anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

My Radio Programme on 94.1fm

For the last six months I have been presenting a Radio Programme on 94.1fm on the Gold Coast on Mondays between 12 and 3 pm and Wednesdays between 6 and 9pm. We play mainly Jazz and Swing and I like to blend that with some movie related music. I have a Movie Quiz every Monday with some good prizes to be won so if anyone is on the Gold Coast listen in!

Major Auctions

Good to see that Christies New York is planning a major auction later this year. Commission charges for many of the major auction houses have crept up to a hefty 20% plus over the last couple of years but so far, there does not seem to have been a great deal of impact in terms of sales.

Amazing eBay Auctions

This eBay auction has to rank as one of the more unusual listings with the longest and most colourful description……

New Website Additions

I have added over 1000 new items in the last month or so with more to come.

Google Ads

I have a number of advertisers on this website who use Google Ads. Although I don’t necessarily endorse any of the products or websites advertised I do recommend that you click on some of the links for more movie memorabilia sites. This provides a good comparison and an indication of what is available in the marketplace.

Shill Crazy after all these years

Shill bidding still appears to flourish and is very difficult to police. Auctionbytes has an interesting article on the problem here…

and another interesting report from London

However these articles only address the tip of the iceberg.
