THE AUSTRALIAN MOVIE POSTER ARCHIVE

Copyright Moviemem Original Movie Posters 2009-2020

Although MovieMem Original Movie Posters is an online store specialising in vintage movie memorabilia, we also maintain an historical archive of information and images of Australian Movie Posters. Over the years, a huge number of posters have passed through our hands. In many cases, information on the printing process, artists is very hard to find. In many cases, records were either not kept or have been lost over the years.

It is a sad reality that when some of the most knowledgeable long time collectors and dealers have passed away, a wealth of information has been lost with them because they never kept records. The majority of the printers of Australian Movie Posters from the early 20th Century through to the 1970s have closed down and much of the information on dates, printing processes and artists has been lost. As a result, much of the information on Australian Movie Posters has been anecdotal and based on expert opinion rather than definitive facts.

In recent years, a number of collectors have been doing meticulous research on the origins and history of Australian Movie Posters. Some of this research has been published on various forums an websites but in a fairly haphazard way.

Collectors are often misled about the origin of Australian movie posters. I see many posters on ebay that are incrorrectly described as original when they are actually re releases. ebay does little to address the problem. I often find that when I send an email to a seller advising that a poster has been misdescribed, the seller either ignores the email or comes back with the excuse that they are only casual sellers and not expert in describing the poster.

MovieMem Original Movie Posters is dedicated to providing and publishing as much historical information as possible for collectors. We also publish www.OzeFilm.com which provides a wealth of information on Australian Movie posters. The Australian Movie Poster Archive will link all of this information and provide images of some of the rarely seen movie posters.
