ROPE Alfred Hitchcock Daybill Movie Poster Original or Reissue?

29 Apr 2019 | Added by John Reid

Alfred Hitchcock's Rope was released in 1948/9. Original Australian movie posters are extremely scarce and a reissue daybill has sometimes been mistakenly described as original at auctions. Experienced collectors would be aware that the daybill that features an image of Hitchcock must be an early 60s reissue. The printer is Robert Burton and that company only started printing movie posters in the late 50s in Australia.

The original daybill with a great image of James Stewart, was printed by Victory Publicity and has rarely been seen.

Pictured below are the original daybill on the left, late 50s/early 60s daybill in the center and the 1983 Essential Hitchcock series re release.
