LINEN BACKING
Linen backing is the preferred archival method for conservation and preservation of posters.
The process begins with a thorough cleaning and deacidification removing all of the impurities from the poster.
The poster is then mounted on linen using light cotton canvas which is stretched onto a frame. To create a smooth mount Japanese 'Masa' paper is applied to the canvas which also creates a base for any restoration work.
I recommend linen backing, particularly if you intend to frame your poster. The linen backing process will remove any foldlines and impefections and the poster will be much more presentable when framed.
I use Megan Logan in Australia at BACK TO LINEN for all of my linen backing. She is meticulous in her work and the results are superb. You will see examples of her work from time to time on this site. You can contact her directly through her website or by email logontomegan@hotmail.com
