FAQ

Q. What is linen backing?

A. 'Back To Linen' uses the wet mount process of taking a poster of any size and thoroughly washing the poster in water, which will remove dirt and deacify the poster. Linen backing is recognised throughout the world including auction houses, as being the preferred method to preserve and restore posters and it is a reversible process, unlike laminating or block mounting your poster, which devalues your poster.

Q. What are the features and benefits of having my poster linen backed?

A. By having your poster linen backed most tapes can be removed and biro or crayon writing on the back can be removed if required (at a minimal charge). Once on linen any restoration work can be dealt with i.e. touch up to fold lines, paper replacement to borders and image can be dealt with. This is an additional cost, however, they say "less is best" and 'Back To Linen' only offers minor restoration work. There are linen backers in the U.S. who offer airbrushing to make a poster look like new, however there is a cost to such work so the value of the poster has to be taken into consideration.

Q. Can any poster be linen backed?

A. Not all posters are suitable, however most posters can be linen backed. It depends on the thickness of the paper that the poster has been printed on.

Q. Does linen backing increase the value?

A. Not necessarily. Poster dealers and collectors have differing ideas about linen backing. Overall, linen backing does not decrease the value - if you have a poster in fine condition and have it linen backed then the value would not increase greatly, however, if you have a rare poster that has major fold line creases and with tears and paper loss, then having the poster linen backed would increase the value of the poster.

Q. Should I have my poster linen backed?

A. If you would like to see the fold lines sitting flat (virtually disappear) and perhaps have the poster framed or displayed by another method then yes, you should consider having your poster linen backed. If you have a poster that cannot be handled due to age and or tears etc. then yes, you should consider having the poster linen backed.

Q. What size posters can be linen backed?

A. 'Back To Linen' can linen back all sizes of posters up to U.S. 3 sheets If you have any further questions please don't hesitate to email me at logontomegan@hotmail.com or phone mobile 0418 887 468.
